Former “Idol” Contestant Found Dead Outside Paula Abdul’s Home

November 13, 2008

LOS ANGELES : A fan of Paula Abdul whose failed audition for “American Idol” aired on Season Five of the show, was found dead in a car near the home of the pop star and judge whom she admired, authorities said on Wednesday.

Described by her parents as “an extreme fan”, 30-year-old Paula Godspeed’s death is still being investigated as a “possible suicide”.

Abdul was not at home when the woman’s body was found, but released a statement saying that she was “deeply shocked and saddened”.

“My heart and prayers go out to her family.”

Her spokesperson said Abdul and her staff have been aware of the woman for several years.

When she appeared on “American Idol” in 2005, Goodspeed talked about her fondness for Abdul after her rendition of Tina Turner’s hit song “Proud Mary”.

Goodspeed told the show’s host Ryan Seacrest how she had created life-sized paintings of the singer and that her “first drawing was of Paula Abdul”.

“American Idol” has emerged as a phenomenon since it debuted on US network Fox in 2002 as a spin-off from British television hit “Pop Idol”.
